Employers

Taking on a graduate could help you address an outstanding project or explore potential for growth or diversification, the opportunity to inject some up-to-date knowledge, fresh ideas and enthusiasm and the potential to find a permanent employee that is right for your business.

Our internship grant gives you a low risk and cost effective opportunity to experience the benefits of employing a graduate along with the chance to provide quality experience to help launch a local graduate’s career.

We can offer you a £1,500 contribution towards the wage costs of employing a graduate on a 13-week full-time internship and help you find and recruit a graduate to suit your needs.  In return we ask you to recruit a local graduate who is registered with our partners, Jobcentre Plus, who is either unemployed or currently working less than 16 hours a week, provide the graduate with full-time work (minimum 30 hours/week) that is deemed to be of ‘graduate’ level, pay the graduate at least £6.90 per hour (but consider paying the Living Wage (currently £7.85/hour)) for the internship period and provide a written reference to the graduate once they have completed their 13-week placement.

Working in partnership with Job Centre Plus we also provide full support in recruitment from our growing register of local graduates who have a wide range of degree specialisms from universities across the UK.

Our team, based at the Council and our colleagues at JCP will help you through the whole process. We will assist you through the application stage, develop the internship vacancy with you, find you suitably matched graduates with appropriate skills to interview and help you complete the paperwork (which is kept to a minimum). If for any reason you do not find the right person for your business there is no obligation to continue.

Eligibility criteria for businesses to apply for the grant:

Your business must have been established for at least three months and have premises in North East Lincolnshire.

Ideally, the scheme is aimed at small to medium sized companies but larger companies can also apply for the 13-week internship incentive too.  Businesses should not however be offering a regular or yearly graduate recruitment programme.  Those businesses who received funding for more than two graduates through the previous scheme will not be eligible for further funding.  However, we will still be able to promote your graduate opportunity to our local graduate database.

This scheme may not suit your business if you already have a graduate in mind for the internship as they may not meet the criteria of this programme.  However we will be as flexible as possible in trying to find you the right person.

If you are an employer interested in offering a graduate an internship and would like to discuss the opportunity further please contact Deborah Cooper on 01472 326142, or email gap@nelincs.gov.uk.
