Our area includes:
- Grimsby – firmly placed for offshore wind construction, operations and maintenance
- Cleethorpes – the popular seaside holiday resort and residential area
- Immingham – a focal point of ports and logistics
- Wolds villages – an area of outstanding natural beauty
The area is building on its location, long-standing expertise in the power and maritime sector to become a major centre for the offshore wind industry.
There is in the order of 20GW of offshore wind estimated installed capacity or approximately up to 3000 new turbines either fully operational, in construction or planned within a modest proximity to the Humber Estuary, whereby North East Lincolnshire is the closest to these projects.
In terms of steaming distance, Grimsby is 10-50 miles from existing and planned turbines in the Southern North Sea.
The area has all the ingredients necessary to host operations and maintenance (O&M) functions, major manufacturers, component suppliers and R&D for the renewables industry. Top Tier companies already operating from the area include ørsted, Eon and Centrica with a host of their supply chain located close by.
Further significant expansion across the area is planned as more wind farms projects come forward.
With our strong maritime heritage, we are outward looking and have strong international links, something that continues today with many commercial partnerships. We have a prime location almost equidistance between London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Rotterdam and other locations in North West Europe.
We have demonstrated a record of developing clusters in major industries, and welcome power and fuel companies to our unique location.
