A Grimsby woman is hoping to turn Freeman Street back into one of the town's go-to shopping destinations after opening her brand new fashion store.

Boutique owner hopes to turn Freeman Street back into a ‘thriving’ shopping district

Andrea Turnbull, has opened Studio 56 Fashion, on Freeman Street, a boutique that aims to provide affordable fashion for women of all sizes and ages, and is hoping that more traders will be attracted to the area, to make it the thriving shopping street it once was.

Andrea opened the shop after selling her former business, CQ Professional Cleaning Company, and as she has had a wealth of experience working the retail sector before, she felt it was a perfect opportunity to start her new venture.

Although originally born on the West Marsh, Andrea spent many of her early years on Freeman Street, with her Grandmother living just off the street, along with many of her friends, and remembers the street fondly as a thriving shopping district that once was home to Marks and Spencer, Woolworths, the Co-op and a popular cinema.

She said: "Back then there was just a real feel good factor to the whole street, everybody seemed to know everybody and the pubs and cafes were always packed, it was just great, there was a proper big fishing community at the time, and it really was the place to go.

"Since then Freeman Street has changed quite a bit, but now there are more and more shops opening up and I really hope that shoppers will regain their confidence to come down here again and we can see Freeman Street become the heart of Grimsby once again.

"I actually started my working life at a vegetable stall in Freeman Street Market, so I guess you could say that everything has come full circle and I am back selling again on Freeman Street."

Prior to the shop opening Andrea had been specialising in plus-sized women's clothing, and she is keen to let her customers know that while she is offering clothes from size 8 - 32, she wants to remain loyal to her former customer base saying: "I would like to maintain my focus on providing great fashion for the fuller figured woman, there really isn't anything in Grimsby at the moment that cater to these women, and I would like them all to know that I am here and ready to help you all with your fashion needs."

Studio 56 Fashion also has a wide range of special offers on, including a loyalty card that can earn customers 20 per cent off any purchase over £40, as well as a lay-by scheme that allows customers to pay for their goods over a period of time.

Andrea is also available for home clothes parties and would like anyone who is interested in hosting one to call her on 01472 456 184 or on 07720548053.

Studio 56 Fashion is open six days a week Monday to Friday, opening from 9am to 3pm on Monday, 9am to 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 9am to 5pm Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
