Cleethorpes’ new bar The Counting House open in ‘six to eight’ weeks

Cleethorpes' vintage bar and restaurant The Counting House - which is in the process of being transformed from a bank - could be open by the end of July.

Cleethorpes’ new bar The Counting House open in ‘six to eight’ weeks

Located in the shell of former HSBC bank, in Sea View Street, it's the newest trendy bar and restaurant to come to the resort and sets to promise a unique drinking and dining experience, with bosses keen to keep - and even restore - many of the building's original features.

And with work now well underway after the company were granted planning permission by North East Lincolnshire Council several weeks ago, the Oak Ridge Group, the company behind the transformation, have set their eyes on opening within "six to eight weeks".

As part of a huge £250,000 make-over, designers have ensured they keep in tact the building's existing period features, such as original marble flooring, oak skirting boards and decorative ceiling fixtures.

One of the people in charge of designing the interior of the new bar is Oak Ridge Group operations director, Richard Matthews, who explains his desire to create a "unique atmosphere".

He said: "We want it to be light and airy in the afternoon so people can chill out and relax and in the evening it should feel like a city centre bar.

"it will have a vintage feel to it. People will be able to dine at the bar and it will create a really good atmosphere."

Richard went on to say how a series of "top-end" beers and cocktails will be available once the bar opens, and believes there is already a "buzz" of anticipation for opening day.

He said: "We are proud to be part of Sea View Street and it is going to be an amazing venue. We are using a winning concept.

"We want people to love it. It's already the talk of the town. We are here for the local clientel as well as tourists. It's an all year round venue.

"It's a beautiful building and for us it's about moulding the old with the new and getting the best out of both. We must respect it's history."

As reported, 20 new staff members will be recruiting ahead of opening day and bosses have already begun their recruitment drive.

The new restaurant will have the capacity for between 70 to 80 diners at a time, as well as bar facilities, and will serve food from brunch right through to dinner.

Ashley Lidgard is the managing director of The Oak Ridge Group, which already comprises the Brackenborough Hotel in Louth, the Ashbourne Hotel in North Killingholme, and outside catering company Vincere Hospitality.

He anticipates that when the bar eventually does open, sometime between the end of July and first two weeks of August, it will be "rammed".

He said: "We wanted to make sure the theme matches the building. It should have personality.

"The more people we can attract to Cleethorpes then the more it can benefit the area.

"The building's features gives us the opportunity to offer a product of originality."
