Deeply dippy as £300k crowdfunding comes in

THEY’VE done it!
The duo behind Grimsby-area food brand The Dip Society have hit the £300,000 crowdfunding target, giving them the go-ahead to invest and take the tub-based treats to the next level.
Developed in Wold Newton by then new-found friends Helen Boyle and Claire Ollard, the cash was secured inside the two-month self set deadline, with strong Lincolnshire backing a feature.
Helen said: “It is really good, we are over the moon to have reached the target, we have had some really good feedback from the Lincolnshire community too.
“There has been some really decent investment gone in from high net-worth individuals, and we have enjoyed some really good visibility thanks to the publicity.
“It is a huge undertaking to do a crowd funding campaign, more than we ever anticipated, but it was now or never and we have certainly added to the skill set.
“The risk of not hitting the target was front of mind too, it is an incredibly public platform, and it could have been embarrassing in terms of visibility and support had it not hit, but it has worked, and we are relieved and chuffed.”
Having met at a mutual pal’s wedding, they found a mutual passion and acted on it, going from a kitchen table production, to converted barn, to now third party high volume manufacturing in Scunthorpe.
Of how the money will be used, Helen said: “Nothing is ever set in stone when you are proposing what you want to achieve, especially in a chilled food business, as everything changes incredibly quickly.
“It means we can move forward, we have the working capital to fund a new machine that we need to put into the factory, to make better products with a better shelf life and better packaging.
“That will help us support big sales, which is the next focus, getting ourselves out there with some bigger customers, working with independents and wholesale markets, and getting new business.”
