Fisherman’s Arms is coming back to Cleethorpes as Dexters pubs change hands
21st March 2017
Mystery over the sudden closure of Dexters pubs in Cleethorpes, Brigg and Louth has partially been solved with news that two have been taken over by a brewery - saving 35 to 40 jobs.
And it has been confirmed that the traditional names of the Fisherman's Arms in Sea View Street, as well as the Black Bull at Brigg, will be returning.
Dexters Alehouse and Kitchen in Louth shut its doors earlier this month, weeks after another in Lincoln also shut.
Dexters in Brigg also shut its doors, with a notice in the window stating that the closure was to allow for maintenance works and a rebrand and it was due to be open again by Friday (March 17).
And, yesterday, the Grimsby Telegraph received information that Dexters in Cleethorpes had also shut.
However, tonight, a spokesperson from Bermondsey Pub Company said: “We can confirm we have acquired Dexter sites in Brigg and Cleethorpes.
"Both pubs will trade under their original names, The Black Bull in Brigg and The Fisherman's Arms in Cleethorpes, and we will be offering a similar drinks range to what we've inherited, in conjunction with a classic pub food menu that has choice for all.
"All existing employees have been retained at the sites."
It is understood the brewery deal also includes a Dexters in Hull and that the Louth and Lincoln sites have been taken over by a separate firm.
The Dexters chain of pubs was opened by Fine Leisure Ltd, which also has The Coach House and Harveys in its portfolio, under the directorship of David Butler. The Cleethorpes venue opened in 2015 and Louth early in 2016.
A staff member at the Coach House, Humberston, said: “Initially they were not trading very well until Mr Butler took them over as the Dexters brand and they became very successful, so the brewery wanted them back."
He said Harveys and The Coach House will be continuing to operate as part of his stable of venues.
The Bermondsey Pub Company is part of Ei Group plc, formerly known as Enterprise Inns.
