Former refinery mechanic earns prestigious Trusted Trader status
20th November 2017
A HUMBERSTON mechanic has been named a Which? Trusted Trader, a first for the whole of North East Lincolnshire.
Steve Mitchell, who trades as Motor Mate Ltd, has passed the rigorous assessment that recognises reputable operators.
The endorsement follows a visit to his Wilton Road premises by a professional assessor with extensive trading standards experience, as well as a company credit check and random customer references.
Mr Mitchell said: “I am thrilled to have passed the assessment to attain the Which? Trusted Trader endorsement. I work very hard to maintain a good reputation. I have some fantastic and very supportive customer whom I would like to thank for their years of loyalty and look forward to continuing to serve my customer well.”
Established in 2011, the step out on his own followed a 16 year stint running the garage at Total Lindsey Oil Refinery, looking after the emergency response fleet for it and neighbouring Phillips 66, as well as site vehicles. It stood him in good stead, as he counts employees back then as customers now.
In his 35th year in the trade, Mr Mitchell started as a 16-year-old apprentice at Grimsby Motors, then the Austin Rover dealership, off Victoria Street.
Which? has been testing products and services and awarding ‘Best Buy’ icons for longer than Mr Mitchell has been alive, with this scheme capturing the spirit.
Paul Smith, interim managing director of Which? Trusted Traders, said: “We are delighted to announce Motor Mate Ltd as a Which? Trusted Trader. The service gives consumers the confidence to make the right choices when it comes to finding skilled professionals and we’re pleased to be able to give traders the chance to distinguish themselves from their peers.
“This scheme is a valuable, free resource for consumers and will help banish the risk of bodge jobs.”
As well as a badge of quality, Which? Trusted Traders offers additional peace of mind for consumers as they can benefit from free dispute resolution from the independent provider Ombudsman Services Ltd, should any issues arise.
