Gym owner’s delight after councillors back plans for expansion

THE owner of a thriving gym in Humberston has spoken of his delight after an application to expand the business into larger premises was granted approval.

Gym owner’s delight after councillors back plans for expansion

Rob Moses, who established CrossFit Grimsby at Humberston Business Park in Wilton Road three years ago, said the planning committee's decision would enable the rapidly developing business to grow further still.

A planning application was submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council for permission to build a larger gym with between 3000sqft and 4000sqft of floor space, changing facilities, showers and sports therapy rooms, by Encompass Marine, who own the land.

The new gym will be built directly behind the current site.

Speaking after members of North East Lincolnshire Council's planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the plans, Mr Moses said: "Obviously it's great news. We have been waiting for something like this for a year and it's been kind of like treading water.

"The business has increased massively since we opened three years ago, it's ridiculous. We have gone from having no members when we first opened to now having more than 130 members. It's growing all the time."

A former Royal Navy serviceman, Mr Moses spent months refitting and kitting out his gym with state-of-the-art equipment and is now welcoming more and more people through his doors.

The new development will create five new jobs; a receptionist, two personal trainers, a sports therapist and a CrossFit coach.

Councillor Stephen Harness said the plans "ticked all the boxes" and said the application had not received any objection from members of the parish council.

All members of the planning committee voted in favour of the application.
