Meridian Point could welcome a third store
30th January 2018
PLANNERS have approved an application to change the use of an empty unit on Cleethorpes’ Meridian Point to retail.
Developer Maltgrade can now transform part of the decommissioned spa and vacant restaurant unit, below Burn Fitness and next to the recently opened Starbucks, into a shop.
In considering it under delegated powers, North East Lincolnshire Council officers noted the original scheme, brought forward in 1999, allowed for a total retail floor space of 2,000 sq m.
Taking into account the two existing units, Leading Labels and The Original Factory Shop’s combined 1,660 sq m, this would take the retail element of the mixed use complex to 1,940 sq m. They opened in early 2005, in a phased addition to the McDonald’s, children’s play centre and gym/spa, ahead of a run of branded fast-food outlets culminating in Starbucks last year, with KFC, Subway and Taco Bell making their way.
