New bar plan for former Top Town bank
8th February 2017
A FORMER bank premises in Grimsby town centre is set to become a bar.
North East Lincolnshire Council has approved change of use of the ground floor of 9-10 Old Market Place – a building which was formerly home to a branch of the TSB Bank and, before that, a Lloyds.
Although the exterior of the three-storey property will be retained as it is, the proposal has not been welcomed by Grimsby Civic Society who said: "Whilst we welcome the re-use of a vacant premises, we are not in favour of the creation of another drinking establishment in this area, given the close proximity of other bars/public houses.
"We are concerned about the wider implications for Victoria Street when we should be considering its improvement."
The applicant is a developer based in Addingham in West Yorkshire.
