Plans submitted £42m scheme’s South Humber Bank link road

PLANNING applications have been submitted to launch Grimsby’s major industrial development.
The £42 million South Humber Industrial Investment Programme’s vital link road and environmental mitigation sites have now been submitted to the planning department of North East Lincolnshire Council, by those charged with the area's economic development.
It will see Moody Lane linked up with Stallingborough’s Hobson Way, upgrading the long stretch that leads to Lenzing Fibers, from Novartis, along the front of Basf and what was Courtaulds, opening up a huge stretch of development land west of the town.
Cress marsh mitigation also forms part of the proposal, for which £23.6 million is to be injected by the local authority in a bid to create 90 hectares of additional employment land, 4,000 new jobs and generate £200 million within the local economy over the next 25 years.
SHIIP will see a number of key projects delivered by the council working in partnership with Engie over a five to 10 year period.
A drop in consultation session will take place on Wednesday, February 21, between 2pm and 7pm, at Grimsby Town Hall. Three key projects will be covered in detail at the event; the Stallingborough Business Park, South Humber Bank Link Road and the Strategic Ecological Mitigation Project.
The planning application for the Stallingborough Business Park, 64 hectares at the A180 junction with the A1173, will soon also be submitted.
Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “This is a significant scheme we have been working to bring forward for some time. There’s a number of projects involved in the scheme – in terms of changes to infrastructure in the area, proposals for a new highway linking the ports and work to make sure the environment and ecology is protected.

For the link road, it will be 1,5km of upgrade and 1km of completely new road. The plan is to significantly enhance the existing private road between Moody Lane and what is to be known as Humber Gate Enterprise Park Junction, where the Courtaulds gatehouse still stands, to an adoptable highway, while introducing a shared footway and cycleway and other highway associated infrastructure, such as streetlighting.
From there to the roundabout on Hobson Way it will be a complete new road.
