Plans to build new home for popular gym CrossFit Grimsby
4th May 2017
PLANNING permission is being sought to build a new home for one of Grimsby's most popular gyms.
CrossFit Grimsby has "outgrown" its current facility, at Humberston Business Park in Wilton Road, Humberston, just three years after first opening, and its owner is now hoping the council will give the go-ahead for a purpose-made gym to be built as the flourishing business continues to grow.
A planning application has been submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council for permission to build a larger gym with between 3000sqft and 4000sqft of floor space, changing facilities, showers and sports therapy rooms, by Encompass Marine, who own the land.
The new gym, which would see CrossFit Grimsby abandon its current home, is planned to be built directly behind the existing facility.
CrossFit Grimsby was established in November 2013 by Robert Moss.
The gym's personal coaches deliver high quality fitness coaching, education on human motor pattens, movement, nutrition, health and fitness.
CrossFit is the latest fitness craze to take the UK by storm in recent years and with its rise in popularity, comes a surge in demand for the relatively small gym's facilities.
Mr Moss, says that over the last three years the client base has expanded so much, that the gym requires a larger facility that allows them to safely and effectively run group fitness classes to a maximum of 20 people per class.
If built, the new gym would provide up to five new jobs; a receptionist, two personal trainers, a sports therapist and a CrossFit coach.
Council officers have recommended the application for approval with conditions.
North East Lincolnshire Council's planning committee will make a decision on this application, as well as others, at a meeting on Wednesday at 9.30am at Grimsby Town Hall.
