Red Herring Games team ‘buzzing’ at Ann Summers founder Jacqueline Gold’s accolade
20th June 2017
YET more recognition from an iconic British entrepreneur has left Grimsby's Red Herring Games team 'buzzing'.
Five years after winning praise from Dragon Theo Paphitis on social media, the team has wowed Ann Summers' founder and chief executive Jacqueline Gold CBE.
Her Championing Working Women #WOW Twitter competition raises the profile of female businesswomen nationwide. And now it seems some solo sleuthing was right up the street of the woman who made her fortune helping her sex do something slightly different on their own.
Having repeatedly tried to catch her attention since the #SBS win, it came as the Wellowgate team crowdfunds a new business product ahead of a Christmas launch.
"We're really pleased with the recognition," managing director Jo Smedley said. "Jacqueline looks at your website, has a look at what you do, looks at how strong the brand value is and your business acumen, then puts it all together.
"We have been pushing for it for five years on and off."
Cosy Killer is the latest addition, and the report in the Grimsby Telegraph about the £40,000 fund launch formed part of the winning entry.
The idea is a monthly subscription box, delivered directly to the doors of hundreds of fans around the world.
Over 12 months players solve the mystery with clues.
"The feedback from people is really positive," Mrs Smedley said, although she doesn't envisage hitting the target at the first attempt. "We are waving our finger in the air and have learnt lots about how crowdfunding operates. We will be launching the product in December, and re-launching crowdfunding in September/October time, pushing it when people are thinking about staying in more."
Since the mid-May launch and the Gold-en Tweet of last week, Red Herring has also won on the export front at the National Small Awards in London. That also featured in the message: "#WOW @Jacqueline_Gold we've won #homeandaway at @TheSmallAwards and are busy crowdfunding @Cosykiller – female sleuthing never stops here!"
