Shining recognition for Grimsby solar scheme

GRIMSBY Community Energy has been shortlisted for a national award, to be revealed in London today.

Shining recognition for Grimsby solar scheme

Success in raising more than £115,000 of investment is the focus as it is in the running in the Community Finance category at the national Community Energy Awards.

It follows being named Best Community Project at the Humber Renewable Business Awards earlier this year.

As reported, a total of 50 members have contributed to the share scheme, investing in 100kW of solar panels at locations in the town. These include E-Factor’s Enterprise Village and Business Hive, and St Andrew’s Hospice and Rock Foundation charity shops on Freeman Street.

Chairman Richard Bellamy said “We are so excited to be in the running for this award, and know it will propel us to continued success with new projects in the future.”

Host organisations get cheaper, cleaner electricity while members, most of whom are ordinary local people, are projected to get 4 per cent interest a year.

The funding replaced a loan provided by E-Factor to kick-start the work.

E-Factor’s managing director, Mark Webb, said: “We were delighted to be able to support Grimsby Community Energy in this way. We shared their faith in what was a bold and exciting initiative by a local company. They have returned that faith in spades and I look forward to hearing of their continued success.”
