Take a look inside the Market Tavern after £165k makeover
11th July 2017
This Cleethorpes pub has a new name and a new look, but still retains its good food and beer, excellent prices, and most of all - its friendly staff.
We took a look inside the Market Tavern - formerly The Fiddler - in the Market Place, after its £165,000 refurbishment to find out why its regulars are, well, still regulars!
General manager Joshua Penny said: “It's really nice, I'm so pleased with the new look, we've had such good vibes from our regulars and visitors alike."
With a complete new look both outside and inside, there is new upholstery, flooring and a bright fresh feel to the place.
And the Market Tavern, managed by the Stonegate Pub Company, really ticks all the boxes when it comes to sport.
"We have large HD Sky television and added TVs now.
"So when there are major sporting events going on our clientele know where to come.
"We even do a table service for customers with food and drink, so they don't miss any of the action," Joshua added.
The pub only reopened on Sunday after its refurbishment and beer lovers are enjoying their cask ales including beers from Batemans and Blackhorse, introducing Punk IPA and Blue Moon as well as Lilleys cider on tap, plus cocktails are two for one all day every day.
"We may have a new look but we still serve really good value meals between noon and 6pm," Joshua added.
We asked a couple of regulars what they thought about the new look Market Tavern.
"I've been coming here for three years now, said Stephen Jacomb, who lives in Thoresby Place.
"I like the feel of the new-look, but it's the friendly staff here that keeps me coming back.
"I can only drink wine and the prices here are the best around.
"It's certainly the bar staff and manager that makes this place
"Even in the winter when I come in to watch some sport on TV, I can keep my woolly hat on," he laughed.
John Birch who lives in Cleethorpes was enjoying his pint and said: "Sometimes I see a member of staff in The Avenue and they stop and say hello and ask when I'm coming in for a pint next.
"It is nice to have that friendly approach.
"What I also like is the fact that the bar staff don't have their mobile phones behind the bar, using them while customers are waiting to be served.
"That's a pet-hate of mine," he added.
Another regular, Tony Bunce, who has been coming to the pub for three years said: "The service is excellent and that is down to the staff."
Regular weekly activities include a pub quiz on Monday, darts and pool on Tuesdays, retro games on Wednesday, a 'Live at the Apollo' style comedy night on Thursdays and karaoke on Fridays.
Saturdays, it's DJ Steve on the decks and on Sundays the pub serves up a traditional roast dinner.
