Tesco Decks restaurant to be axed at Cleethorpes in latest store revamp
13th March 2017
The Decks restaurant at Cleethorpes Tesco Extra store is to shut for two weeks for a complete revamp.
A cafe will open in its place at the Hewitt's Circus store as the store becomes the latest in the supermarket chain to rebrand its eatery. The move has come as a surprise to some as they say it has only been a "Decks for two minutes".
That revamp just over two years ago saw the popular cafe dropped in favour of the new Decks brand and help-yourself carveries and breakfasts with a complete redesign into an American-style diner look.
Now the cafe is to make a return with carveries being dropped from the menu. But while Tesco bosses were remaining tightlipped on the menu, they did confirm that breakfasts would still be served in some format.Decks will shut on March 12 for the work to start, reopening two weeks later.
One regular at the restaurant, who did not wish to be named, said: "I can't believe they're dropping Decks already. It's only been here five minutes."
"It was not a popular move at the time with regulars but it looks like the cafe is coming back.
"I wonder if the breakfasts will be serve yourself though. They seemed to be popular but I wonder if the carveries weren't a big enough choice for everyone."
However, a Tesco spokesman said the new cafe brand had proved popular at other stores: "The Decks restaurant will be closing on March 12 whilst work takes place to convert it into one of our new format cafés.
"Our new cafés have proved to be very popular with customers elsewhere and we look forward to welcoming customers to the new café in Cleethorpes Extra once the work is complete."
The Grimsby Tesco Extra store never did go over to the Decks style of restaurant, keeping its cafe format, which is run by a franchise.
