Three good causes get cash boosts from Co-op

THREE organisations in Barton have received more than £2,000 worth of funding from the Co-op.
As a result of the Co-op's membership scheme launched last September, the money will be shared by three good causes across the town.
These are Barton Trinity Methodist Church, which received £788, Barton Junior Football Club, which received £770 and Barton Lions, which received £764.
Trinity Methodist Church is Grade-II Listed and all work requires consent from various authorities.
The church's current disabled access is limited by a non-compliant ramp and this money will mean two new ramps can be installed, which will allow wheelchair users to be more able to join in with the social activities inside and feel less excluded.
When a Co-op member buys own-brand products from food stores or a funeral plan or funeral from Funeralcare, they earn a 5 per cent reward for themselves with a further 1 per cent going to local good causes.
All those 1 per cent rewards, plus the proceeds of the carrier bag charge in England, has resulted in the £2,322 pay-out in Barton.

While the total has been generated by sales of all Co-op own brand goods, the most popular own brand goods bought by Co-op members are milk, chicken, bread, sandwiches, potatoes, bacon, grapes, bananas and yoghurts.
Rufus Olins, chief membership officer at the Co-op, said: "The Co-op has always been community focused. The original Rochdale Pioneers were motivated by the need to improve the living conditions of those within their local community and they also understood that values were just as important as value.
"By listening to our members, we are able to identify what communities care most about and then offer support that really makes a difference, and by working with and supporting local good causes, great things are happening."
The Co-op has 4.3 million active members including 750,000 recruited since the new scheme began on September 21, 2016.
