Winners revealed in The Journal’s Restaurant Of The Year Awards 2016
2nd February 2017
WITH so many areas to venture into in order to try out some of the region's very best restaurants the Northern Lincolnshire Journal now has a small team of food reviewers who religiously head off for their chosen venue each month.
On their return to the office, they will score each, out of 10, on food, surroundings and service, giving them a total score out of 30.
This year, we were amazed at how close the scores were with only six points separating the top and bottom figures.
Of course, this was the year that we decided to give the readers and customers of each of our restaurants the power to decide on the main award, asking each establishment to campaign in order to be in with a chance of winning "the big one".
Our 12 restaurants of 2016 were:
The Comfy Duck, Laceby
Hall Farm, Ashby cum Fenby
The Huntsman, Barton
Halfway House, North Thoresby
The Haven Inn, Barrow
New Inn, Great Limber
Tale of Two, Cleethorpes
Kingsway Hotel, Cleethorpes
The White Swan, Scotter
The Ranch Steakhouse, Louth
Humber Royal, Grimsby
So, with three main awards up for grabs, we are pleased to announce our winners ...
The Journal Reader's Choice Restaurant of the Year, and by quite a huge margin, was The Comfy Duck at the Oaklands Hall Hotel. We almost had to find an extra space in the office to fit in the many votes we received for the Laceby restaurant!
Highly commended by readers were Stallingborough Grange and the Kingsway, Cleethorpes, who also received high praise from the Journal reviewers and were so very close to winning our next award ...
The Journal's Choice Award this year goes to The Humber Royal. Our reviewers were impressed with the lovely staff, delicious food and the wonderful views from the huge windows in the restaurant, which takes in the lush greens of the nearby golf course.
The Journal's Choice Runner Up went to Louth's The Ranch which was very popular with, in particular, our serious meat-eating reviewers – although they do have vegetarian options for those that don't eat meat!
Congratulations to all of participants as every meal in every venue was enjoyed immensely. But somebody had to win so a huge congratulations to the restaurants scooping the top awards for 2016 and the very best of luck to those we shine a spotlight on during 2017.
