‘World’s smallest pub’ enters Good Pub Guide
25th September 2017
A CLEETHORPES landlord is toasting the success of his unique pub which has entered the Camra Good Pub Guide for the first time.
The Signal Box at Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway has been approved by the real ale guide.
Licensee Alan Cowood said: “I have been working to achieve this status for nine years. I have twice been the Cider Pub of the Year for this area but this is the first time in the Good Pub Guide. I am over the moon. It is great news having come on the back of a Five-star rating with TripAdvisor who awarded a Certificate of Excellence.
“The past two years have given me what I have worked so hard for,” added Alan.
He said it will give The Signal Box’s weekend beer festival an extra tonic.
Saturday at The Signal Box also marks the start of OktoberFest when there will be a range of German beers to enjoy alongside a tantalising taste of 24 English beers.
They have been transported from all corners of the nation for real ale buffs to enjoy.
Alan said they had been imported especially from Sheffield, The Malverns and Somerset.
The jovial landlord said: “It is strange having an OktoberFest in September but Saturday is when it all officially starts and goes all the way into October.”
He said his pub, thought to be the smallest pub on the planet, is renowned worldwide for its unique features, quality of choice and the type of customers who make it a friendly venue.
Measuring just eight-foot by eight-foot- squared the pub certainly packs a punch when it comes to its choice of cask ales, lager, bitter, spirits, wines with around 20 different ciders available at any one time.
