GRIMSBY’S family-owned seafood processing business, Flatfish, has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award it won back in 2016.

It is in the final three for Fish Processor of the Year in the Fishing News Awards, with judges recognising that “heavy investment in both people and the latest technology has built a processing facility that enables the company to showcase to the major retailers the highest quality fish sourced from the UK fishing fleet”.

Led by Steve Stansfield, it began with a stall on the pontoon 39 years ago, and now occupies a purpose-built site, capable of producing 17,000 fillets an hour, with total commitment to supply chain intefrity.

It is up against Lunar of Peterhead and More Seafoods of Brixham, Devon.

The winner will be revealed at a gala dinner in Aberdeen on May 24.

The award will recognise “outstanding support to the commercial fishing industry in 2017,” with “evidence of the use of industry best practice, technological innovation, and excellence of service”.
