TOILETS at Grimsby’s Freshney Place Shopping Centre have been honoured with a prestigious platinum grade in the Loo of the Year Awards.
Centre director Amanda Austin said the whole team was “flushed with success” to receive the top grading following the surprise secret inspection of the facilities, rolled out in August 2016.
“The inspection team were impressed with the standard of hygiene across all of our bathrooms, which is something we’re particularly pleased with,” said Amanda. “As free customer toilets, our facilities are always very popular and it is testament to the great team here that the Loo of the Year inspectors singled out the cleaning team for praise.”
As well as being commended for cleanliness, the £180,000 facilities – which formed part of the extensive improvements programme at Freshney Place – impressed the inspectors with their design and equipment.
“The larger, modern new facilities include parent-friendly men’s and women’s bathrooms, disabled bathrooms and baby change amenities,” said Amanda. “In line with the centre’s sustainability policy, they also use energy efficient lights and hand-dryers, and the inspector noted that all our equipment was working efficiently and effectively, and that overall we had a very clean and well-maintained facility,” she said.
“We received credit for maintaining such a high standard at a very busy location, and our facilities were also praised for having a larger cubicle to accommodate a pushchair.”
The new facilities, between The Entertainer and Costa, are part of the wider £4 million investment to accommodate a massively expanded Primark, set to open later this month.
