Tillett’s triumph at tourism awards as they clothe from Cleethorpes
22nd March 2018
Cleethorpes' Tillett’s Clothing has been named best retailer at the Lincolnshire Media Tourism Excellence Awards.
The family run independent women’s clothing store, with thriving website, was celebrated after judges heard of strong growth and innovation with technology, with Facebook Live modelling shoots now a regular weekly feature.
Delighted Melanie Tillett, who started the business, and is joined by her daughters Nancy and Grace as directors, said: “We’re a team and we’ve got a huge team supporting us and we’ve got some fabulous ladies buying from us.”
It comes on the back of a phenomenal 2017 when the Sea View Street boutique picked up the Small Business Award at the Northern Lincolnshire Business Awards followed by Best Marketing Campaign at the European Business Excellence Forum and Awards ceremony in Harrogate. The first gong of 2018 came immediately after an appearance on Mother’s Day at the Gok Wan Fashion Brunch Club in Lincoln, with the style guru handpicking Tillett’s to appear on the catwalk.
Nancy Tillett said they were shocked, as she didn’t believe they could win big again. She said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won this award. It’s thanks to our customers and team that we have done as well as we have.”
A total of 15 people are employed across the Cleethorpes and Louth shops and a new distribution and administration centre to aid online fulfilment and support store growth on Wilton Road Industrial Estate, Humberston.
It has seen rapid expansion in the 12 years. Of the use of social media, Melanie, said: “Facebook Live has been such a huge success for us.
“People are watching from far and wide. We have people ordering on the night and the parcels are packed and going out the next day.”
The judges of the award, sponsored by Lincoln’s White Hart Hotel, said: “We were keen to see how retailers promote their businesses to encourage footfall to their shops and the local area. Tillett’s is very interactive with social media users, encouraging them to visit the shop and Cleethorpes. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this growing business.”
The ceremony was held at Lincoln’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, with Lincoln Showground taking the Business Tourism Award. Full coverage of the ceremony from our sister website, Lincolnshire Live, can be found here.
Tillett's is now looking forward to the shortlisting for the Northern Lincolnshire Business Awards 2018, with nominations in once more.
