Small Business Saturday UK

2018 will be the sixth year that the UK have participated in Small Business Saturday, which was introduced to encourage spending with small, independent firms around Black Friday and Cyber Monday which predominantly benefit larger stores in the run up to Christmas.

Last year was its most successful yet, with an estimated £748 million spent with small businesses across the UK. The campaign #SmallBizSatUK trended at number one in the UK on Twitter on the day with tweets reaching 115 milliion people. Backing from local authorities was up from 80% in 2016 to 87% in 2017, with active support for the campaign including small business events and free parking on the day, meaning wherever you were in the UK, Small Business Saturday was happening nearby.

Small Business Saturday UK

This year, Small Business Saturday UK takes place on Saturday 1st December and once again North East Lincolnshire Council is proud to be supporting the campaign with free parking in most council-operated car parks.  We are also delighted that two of our local businesses were chosen as a #SmallBiz100 company this year and were showcased across Small Business Saturday's social media channels on their allocated day.

For more information about Small Business Saturday go to or check them out on social media.

Do you know that over 97% of businesses in North East Lincolnshire are classed as small enterprises (having less than 50 employees)?

Supporting small local businesses is something that we encourage throughout the year, so please continue to lend your support to this campaign by having a rethink about where to buy goods and services.  By spending just some of your weekly shopping budget with a local business can make a huge impact on the local economy and on that small business.
